Salehuddin: Unaware of Ministerial Offer, May Return to Academia
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on Tuesday dispelled circulating rumours, stating he is entirely unaware of any official proposal for him to join a future political government as a minister.
Speaking to reporters following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, Dr. Salehuddin addressed persistent speculation regarding his role once the current interim administration concludes its tenure.
“I do not know anything about this,” the Finance Adviser stated definitively, responding to multiple questions about whether he had been approached or was considering transitioning into a formal political position.
The veteran economist, who took on the advisory role within the non-party interim administration earlier this month, has been the subject of intense media scrutiny regarding his professional future. Advisers within the current government structure are often viewed as potential candidates for formal cabinet roles should the caretaker system transition into a politically elected government following elections.
When further asked whether he would contemplate accepting a ministerial offer if one were eventually extended, Dr. Salehuddin reportedly indicated a strong inclination toward non-political commitments.
Sources close to the adviser suggest that he is considering a return to his distinguished academic career. Dr. Salehuddin has a deep background in education and economics, having previously served as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank and held key posts in various national and international academic institutions.
His recent statements reinforce the current interim administration’s stance that its advisers are focused solely on managing current affairs and steering the country toward general elections, rather than planning long-term political careers.
