Last chance for pensioners to get free air fryers

A widespread community initiative designed to help residents manage soaring energy bills is drawing to a close, with council officials announcing a final deadline for eligible pensioners to claim a free air fryer.

The ambitious scheme, launched across the region earlier this year, aimed to tackle the ongoing cost of living crisis by distributing energy-efficient cooking devices. To date, the council has successfully handed out approximately 15,000 air fryers to local households, focusing on those most financially vulnerable.

Council representatives stated that the programme was implemented following evidence suggesting that air fryers use significantly less electricity than conventional ovens, offering an immediate and tangible reduction in household energy expenditure for low-income families.

While the initial phase was open to a broader cross-section of the population, the remaining stock is now being reserved strictly for senior residents, particularly those receiving pension credit or facing extreme fuel poverty. This final phase represents the last opportunity for this demographic to benefit from the community investment before the scheme is formally terminated.

A spokesperson for the council emphasised the urgency of application. “We have seen unprecedented demand for this assistance, confirming the pressure many households are under,” the statement read. “However, the budget and stock allocated for this project are finite. We strongly urge any pensioner who meets the criteria to register their claim before the end of the month to ensure they do not miss out on this saving measure.”

To claim one of the remaining devices, eligible residents must provide proof of residency and confirm their entitlement to relevant income-based benefits. Applications must be submitted directly through local community hubs or the council’s designated helpline, which has seen increased call volumes since the announcement of the final cut-off date. The scheme is expected to fully exhaust its resources within the next fortnight.
