From Dhaka to Dubai: How One Local Startup is About to Take Bangladeshi Shopkeepers Global

For decades, Bangladesh’s export sector has been dominated by large garment manufacturers, leaving small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—from leather artisans in Old Dhaka to spice producers in Chittagong—struggling to access international markets due to complex customs procedures and prohibitive shipping costs.

Newness Go, a pre-launch startup based in Dhaka, aims to disrupt this barrier by introducing a digital platform designed to connect local retailers directly with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets, specifically Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Founded by entrepreneur Neaj Morshed, the platform is positioning itself as a comprehensive logistical bridge rather than a traditional e-commerce site. The startup’s model focuses on allowing Bangladeshi shopkeepers to sell “Made in Bangladesh” products globally without managing the complexities of cross-border trade.

Bridging the Logistical Gap According to company insiders, the core functionality of Newness Go revolves around its “Partner App.” Through this digital interface, merchants can list their inventory—ranging from handicrafts and clothing to non-perishable food items.

Unlike standard marketplaces where sellers often handle their own shipping, Newness Go plans to manage the entire supply chain. This includes picking up products from local shops in Bangladesh, handling customs documentation, and ensuring last-mile delivery to customers in the Gulf region.

“Our goal is to eliminate the middleman and the administrative hurdles that discourage small businesses from exporting,” said Neaj Morshed, CEO of Newness Go. “We want to ensure that a weaver in Tangail has the same access to a customer in Dubai as a large conglomerate, but with the simplicity of a local transaction.”

Expansion Plans and Market Strategy The decision to target the GCC first is strategic. The region hosts a massive Bangladeshi expatriate community, creating a ready-made market for nostalgic and culturally specific goods. Following the initial rollout in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the company has outlined a roadmap to expand into European markets, with long-term plans to enter the United States.

While the official launch date is yet to be announced, the startup is currently focused on onboarding local merchants and finalizing logistical partnerships to ensure a smooth rollout.

A Model with Social Impact Beyond commerce, the company has integrated a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative into its revenue model. Morshed has committed that 1% of the platform’s sales proceeds will be donated to support orphanages in Bangladesh, aiming to align business growth with social welfare.

The Road Ahead If successful, Newness Go could play a pivotal role in diversifying Bangladesh’s export basket. Currently, small businesses contribute significantly to the local economy but have a negligible footprint in exports. By digitizing the supply chain, Newness Go attempts to unlock a new revenue stream for the country’s micro-entrepreneurs, transforming local shops into global exporters.
