Former minister Ramesh Chandra Sen dies in jail

Former minister and prominent political figure Ramesh Chandra Sen has died while in judicial custody at Dinajpur District Jail. Sen, 83, passed away earlier today after falling critically ill while incarcerated, according to official reports from prison authorities.

Sen, who was the former Member of Parliament for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, had been detained pending trial in connection with several serious criminal charges. Sources familiar with the legal proceedings confirmed that the former MP was being held in relation to three active cases, including a capital offense of murder.

Jail officials stated that Sen complained of acute sickness early in the morning. He was immediately given medical attention by the resident jail doctor. However, due to the rapid deterioration of his condition, he could not be stabilized and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The Superintendent of Dinajpur District Jail confirmed the death and noted that the standard procedure for the death of an inmate is being followed. An autopsy is mandated to determine the exact cause of death, though preliminary observations suggest age-related complications played a role given his advanced years.

Ramesh Chandra Sen’s death closes a long and controversial political career. Authorities have contacted his family, and arrangements are being made for the post-mortem examination and subsequent transfer of the body. The legal proceedings in the cases against him are expected to be formally discharged following the completion of all judicial and medical formalities.
