BNP wins five seats in Dinajpur, independent takes one

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a dominant position in Dinajpur, successfully winning five of the six declared parliamentary constituencies following the recent general election. The remaining seat was claimed by an independent candidate, according to results officially announced on Thursday.

The conclusive tally confirms a major victory for the opposition party in the northern district, solidifying its presence ahead of the formation of the new parliament. The official results were confirmed and announced by Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Rafiqul Islam earlier in the day.

Mr. Islam stated that the tabulation process proceeded smoothly across all six constituency centers, with detailed constituency-by-constituency breakdowns being forwarded immediately to the central Election Commission in Dhaka. The results provide definitive representation for the six crucial seats contested in the district.

The BNP’s landslide victory in five constituencies underscores its strong organizational machinery and voter loyalty within Dinajpur. While the party celebrated its substantial gains, the success of the independent candidate in the sixth constituency offered a significant deviation from the trend. The independent win highlights the persistent influence of localized, non-partisan political forces in the region, particularly in contests where incumbent popularity or specific regional issues outweigh party loyalty.

Political analysts suggest the Dinajpur results reflect a significant consolidation of the opposition vote within this specific geographical area. Following the announcement, supporters of the newly elected members gathered in celebratory rallies across the district headquarters, marking the conclusion of a highly contested electoral campaign season. Attention now shifts to the national results as the full composition of the country’s next legislative body emerges.
