Resurfaced Video Shows HGTV Star Using N-Word
HGTV has removed the popular series “Rehab Addict” from all its platforms following the circulation of a resurfaced video showing star Nicole Curtis using the N-word. The network confirmed late Monday that the punitive action was taken immediately after the video gained widespread attention on social media.
The controversy centers on a brief video clip, the exact origins and date of which are unclear, but which shows Ms. Curtis clearly uttering the racial slur. The footage rapidly circulated over the weekend, prompting strong condemnation from viewers who demanded accountability from the home renovation personality and the network.
In response to the backlash, HGTV issued a statement confirming the swift cancellation and removal of the show. The network cited the star’s “offensive racial comment” as the direct reason for severing ties with the series. “HGTV upholds a strict standard of professional conduct and has a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech or offensive language,” a spokesperson indicated.
As a result, all episodes of “Rehab Addict” have been scrubbed entirely from network distribution channels, including the HGTV GO streaming app, the Max streaming service (formerly HBO Max), and all scheduled rerun slots on cable television. The total removal of the show signals a definitive end to the program’s run under the network banner.
Nicole Curtis, who rose to prominence restoring historic homes in Detroit and other cities, premiered “Rehab Addict” in 2010 and became one of the network’s longest-running and most recognizable stars. She had recently launched new projects and specials with the network.
As of publication, Nicole Curtis has not released a public statement addressing the controversial video or HGTV’s decision to terminate the series’ availability across all distribution platforms.
