Nazrul Islam Khan: Bangladesh-India ties to strengthen under Tarique Rahman’s leadership
Dhaka – Nazrul Islam Khan, a prominent member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, stated that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India are poised for significant improvement and strengthening under the anticipated leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. Speaking on what he hailed as a “historic election day,” Mr. Khan expressed high confidence in the outcome, predicting a decisive victory for the party.
Addressing the press following polls closing in the crucial general election, Mr. Khan asserted that the mandate secured by the BNP would be overwhelming. “We are looking at nothing short of a two-thirds majority in this election,” Khan stated. “The enthusiasm and participation we have witnessed across the nation signal a profound desire for change. This result will firmly establish Tarique Rahman as the next leader of the government, ushering in a new era of stability and cooperation.”
The core focus of Khan’s remarks centered on foreign policy, particularly Bangladesh’s pivotal relationship with its neighbor, India. He assured that despite political speculation, a BNP-led administration under Mr. Rahman would prioritize pragmatic and robust engagement with New Delhi, based on mutual respect and shared interests.
“The bond between Bangladesh and India is historic, built on geography, culture, and trade. Any government we form will work diligently to resolve outstanding issues, enhance regional connectivity, and foster economic partnership,” Khan explained. “We predict a very positive future for our bilateral ties, moving beyond political rhetoric and focusing instead on strategic, long-term cooperation that benefits the people of both nations.”
Mr. Khan emphasized that the projected electoral success marked a turning point in Bangladesh’s political trajectory, promising transparency, good governance, and an administration focused on diplomacy. The Standing Committee member concluded by reiterating his belief that the scale of the predicted victory provides a strong mandate for the future government to pursue deeper diplomatic and security cooperation across South Asia.
