Dhaka, – Bangladesh is set to welcome a substantial international contingent for the monitoring and reporting of its upcoming general election, with authorities confirming the accreditation of 394 international observers and 197 foreign journalists.

The announcement underscores a heightened level of global scrutiny aimed at ensuring transparency and adherence to democratic standards throughout the electoral process. The deployed force of international observers marks a significant increase compared to previous polls, signaling a pivotal moment for the country’s democratic assessment.

Notably, the count of 394 international observers slated to monitor the polls is more than double the figure present during the controversial general election held on January 7, 2024. That previous election faced international criticism regarding low turnout and boycott by major opposition parties. The doubling of the observer count suggests a move toward greater openness and a proactive effort to address lingering concerns about electoral integrity.

The observers are expected to represent various international organizations, forums, and diplomatic missions, focusing on voter registration, campaign fairness, polling day procedures, and the final tabulation of results. Their collective reports will form the basis of key international assessments regarding the legitimacy and fairness of the polls.

Complementing the monitoring teams, the 197 foreign journalists will provide real-time coverage, ensuring the events of the election are widely disseminated to global audiences. These journalists, hailing from diverse news agencies across continents, will cover campaign rallies, polling center activities, and the immediate aftermath of the vote.

The increased international presence across both monitoring and media roles is viewed as critical to bolstering public confidence in the electoral outcome and enhancing the credibility of the entire process on the global stage.
